Hello all
My dog came in the other day with a swollen eye, the next day her whole face had swollen and she had vomited up her food.
I called the vets and they advised it sounded like a reaction to an insect bite.
We have just moved into a new house and there are a couple of fruit trees and flowering plants in the garden, which of course are like bee magnets!!
Hopefully my labrador (16 months) will have learnt that she cannot try to catch bees with her mouth (as she does with moths) however, I am worried that she may get stung again.
Its the start of spring here and the bees are going to be around for a while.
Is there anything that I can give my dog to prevent a further reaction if she gets stung again?
Also any advice on how to keep the bees away from her completely would be a great help – although I know that is a big ask……..
Thank you!
you can give dogs benadryl, but speak to your vet about proper dosing.

Benedryl, use the baby liquid benedryl. It works faster. The vet should have given the dog a steroid shot. It would help the swelling go away, and help the dog recover faster.
Especially since the dog vomited.
Shame on the vet.
The dog is just going to have to learn to stay away from the bees. If my dog could, yours can, too. Rowdy (the oldest dog)sure is silly catching moths. He looks like a huge rabbit hopping across the yard after the moths and butterflies. We have other dogs, and if that was ALL they caught, I’d be happy. We live on a farm, so we get a variety of things they catch and kill, and (eat) frogs, and armadillos, rabbits, and other assorted things he brings to us to see before he eats them.

Like humans there is not very much u can do. if she gets stung again make sure to keep a close eye on her because if she gets stung near her lungs she may stop breathing!!
