GMO = genetically modified organisms, aka foods containing highly toxic pesticides/herbicides and other tox chems built in the DNA of the seed (corn, canola, soy, cotton, zucchini, beets & now alfalfa).
Sub Q’s:
Do you eat them?
Or is this first news to you??
Do you care about long term-health effects?
Do you care about long-term environmental disasters such as Colony Collapse Disorder? (aka bee’s extinction, global disaster which have been proven to be directly linked to GMO’s but as long as the payola is there to quash turthful news report everyone has their heads up their behind; however without bees there is no possibility of life on Earth)
Feel free to copy/paste this ready made answers if they match your mindset:
I’m all for it it’s awesome
I’m a lazy Canadian and I’d personally like to thank the Yanks for bringing Frankenfoods that cause Morgellons’ disease to my table, it might kill my mother-in-law
I grab whatever is on the shelf and I chow down
I don’t care, they wouldn’t sell it if it’s dangerous, you can trust an American scientist.
As long as they don’t GMO bacon and maple syrup, we’re cool
I can’t be bothered to watch no damn video
Go away and let me eat in peace
Do you mean these blue & red fibers poking out my skin and my scalp oozing glass is caused by all the GMO’s I been eating?
I maybe an uneduquated leizy tw*t but your an idiet
Damn those lib yanks, Bush was the greatest Yank President evah!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh we don’t know why bees are going extinct but it has nothing to do with the built-in pesticides that GMO plants carry/waft away, otherwise those greedy I mean nice people at Monsanto wouldn’t plant that stuff in Canada our governement is not stupid/corrupt and woudln’t allow it!
Or…???
Canadians on GMO’s
Kreeos: please educate yourself and don’t compare GMO’s to hybrid or cross-pollitnation! GMO’s are not even in the same zip code as hybrids! The bananas you speak of don’t have built-in pesticides within their DNA spewing tons of lethal tox chems into its fruity flesh. (Of course there’s GM bananas but that’s another story!) The S.C.I.E.N.T.I.F.I.C evidence is out there. Go to Vimeo and search Jeffrey M Smith: he provides tons of scientific proof and it’s documented on camera to show that GMO’s have been proven toxic and lethal to certain persons. Those scientists who worked for Monsanto and uncovered that are on-camera explaining how they got fired once they came to the conclusion that GMOs weren’t safe for animal nor human consumption, and their studies suppressed. All in the name of the payola, the geat American love for the dollar. But I guess you can bury your head back in the sand. How’s living in la-la-land? ![]()
@bw002: your agri-education dates back to the 1970′s. Pre-history when it comes to GMO’s! Educate yourself. Click the vids. Or be a lazy dumb@$$, bury your head in the sand and eat another helping of tox chems. How’s living in denial? I’ll be first in line to tell you “I told you so” when the effects of GMO cosumption start showing in YOUR bloodwork! =)
@Jeff H then try lard! Olive oil is NOT a good oil to cook with! Only to drizzle in already cooked foods or salads. I cook with coconut oil or bacon fat. I use olive oil in my salads or I do without.
@Randy B: hey! There you are! =D LOL!!! HAHAHA! You crack me up 75% of the time!
There are 2 kinds of ppl in this world: the ones intelligent enough to educate themselves about an issue, become responsible for themselves and take action to change their behavior. And then there are the uneducated gullible fools who swallow the lies they are given because they are too lazy to do proper research or even watch a video that is way in over their heads. To them ignorance truly is bliss and denial a river in Egypt. I will be there to remind them “I told you so” when they are in their death bed with Morgellons or cancer. And they will still utter “there is no scientific proof” right before the croak. Right sweethearts: you are the only scientific proof that will matter at that very moment! =)
Your question seems rather loaded and biased. Having read it you show a very obvious anti-GM food bias. You also seem to have a weird anti-American thing going on as well.
To answer your question, there hasn’t been any conclusive scientific evidence to show that genetically modified foods are harmful let alone completely toxic. In fact, most foods that are available in the market today is genetically modified to some extent (due to selective breeding). What we know as the modern banana is a modified food. Due to generations of selective breeding they’ve changed the physical properties of the fruit.
Also, your statement that without bees life on Earth cannot exist is blatantly false. Life existed on Earth before bees evolved and will do so if they go extinct. All that would happen is human life would collapse since most of what we eat is pollinated by bees. The bulk of plant life on the planet isn’t pollinated by bees so they could care less if they existed or not.
EDIT: Being insulting is hardly a good way to win a debate. If you believe that this scientific evidence exists then please present it. It’s not my job as the audience to research on my own. You’re the one making the claims so therefore the burden of proof is on you. If you provide links to credible sources I will certainly read them. So far, all I have is your word that GM foods have toxins built in. Why should I merely take your word for it?

“GMO = genetically modified organisms, aka foods containing highly toxic pesticides/herbicides and other tox chems built in the DNA of the seed (corn, canola, soy, cotton, zucchini, beets & now alfalfa).”
Your definition of GMOs shows such a lack of the basic understanding of biology that your question is moot.
a) Pesticides and herbicides are by definition substances put on crops after they have started growing. They are not part produced by the plant and certainly aren’t part of it’s DNA. You can put these on crops whether they are genetically modified or not.
b) DNA is made up of four chemicals — adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine. None of these chemicals are harmful to any living organism. There is no toxin, pesticide, or herbicide “built in DNA”.
c) “DNA of the seed” is a meaningless statement. All cells of an organism have the exact same DNA. DNA within a seed is no different than DNA in the bark, roots, fruit, flowers, leaves, etc. of a plant.
d) All plants are generically modified. This has been done for nearly a billion years and been done artificially for some 10,000 years. Selective breading, cross pollination, DNA contamination from viruses and bacteria, grafting crossover, etc. has been going on for ages. The only difference with GMOs is that biologists now have a good idea of what DNA is being exchanged or introduced rather than having tens of thousands of random chances taking place without any specific knowledge to their effect.
e) That claim that any food is “highly toxic” is silly. If something were highly toxic it would have immediate effects — i.e. deaths and sicknesses. Further, almost every single plant is toxic to begin with. Apple seeds, broccoli, rhubarb (leaves), nutmeg, etc. are all toxic. Various parts of the plant evolved toxins to kill inserts or discourage herbivores from eating them. Different animals evolved different ways of eating the toxins — which is why some plants will kill cats but not humans or cows — some toxins are diluted with other foods, some are broken down after the plant dies, some are destroyed by bacteria in the stomach, some by cooking, etc. Whether a GMO potato is more toxic that a non-GMO potato is certainly possible (and certainly worth testing) but to say it is “highly toxic” is silly as they already contain solanine and chaconine which, in large doses, are toxic to humans while say corn does not.
I don’t mind an honest discussion of GMOs. It is fine pointing out legitimate issues with GMOs — such as biodiversity issues, possible ecosystem problems from sudden crop changes, cross contamination/spreed during testing phases, costs, non-food uses of GMOs, etc., etc. However, when someone doesn’t demonstrate a basic understanding of biology — presticides are put on crops, toxins are not “built in” DNA, DNA in the seed is the same as any other DNA, all plants have been generically modified, and since all plants contain toxins “highy toxic” is utterly vague — then one has to dismiss their arguments to begin with. They are either too ignorant of the subject to have a reliable opinion or are deliberately trying to deceive the audience in hopes that they don’t know basic biology either.

my problem with GMO’s is that they are tinkering with natural processes and suing people for it. For example, through natural processes ie. wind and animals carrying seed on their fur. GMO seeds are spread to farms that haven’t bought the official them. The largest GMO seed manufacturer then sued these farmers because they were growing produce from their seeds without paying them. The tinkering with seed stock and assuming rights to these seeds is crazy since you can’t control mother nature and utimately I feel like they want to create two tiers of farmers those who use GMO stock and those who don’t. This will be disasterous in third world countries where people can barely afford seed stock as it is and can you imagine being sued or pushed into buying designer seeds.
btw, I don’t mind eating gmo stock food in moderation.

Eating healthy or not , I have to die one day. I usually eat healthy but I’m not freaking out because of what is in the food.

The problem with answering a question like this is that the built in bias is obvious both from the original question and your response to some of the answers given in your edits. Using the broad definition of the term GMO any plant that is not in it’s original form has been modified either through cross breeding or, in more modern times, through manipulation of DNA and other properties. However most GMO’s do not have “built in pesticides”, they are designed to be resistant to certain plant diseases, increase yield, and increased resistance to environmental changes such as various lengths of growing seasons, drought, and excess rain.
The debate over them has raged for a number of years and you can find evidence our there to support virtually any claim from the claim that they are highly toxic to the claim that they have no negative effect on us. The simple truth is that the truth is probably somewhere in between on some and probably lower on others. Certainly I use Canola since I cannot afford to cook with Olive Oil, way too expensive, and Sunflower Oil, a natural product, would have serious health repercussions due to allergic reactions to it and several other oils.
