Dream about going into abandoned apartment?

I had this dream about my 22 year old son replied to an ad from craigslist ( it seems like it was an iPad ), he went to go get it, I tagged along and they gave him the address to an abandoned apartment, it seemed like it was set up like a maze, then we were walking and we seen these loud talking guys in an alley way pulled a gun, and we were running really fast, it was so dark. i started calling the lord, we ended up in an area that lead out to the street, but it was so dark and the cars were swarming around the high-way, my son fell down, then he got up. The man caught up to us, I was trying to grab the pistol, then I yelled to my son. I took the gun, he pulled a knife out but then he got back up and the fighting continued. In the end, we barely escaped, it seemed like we semi-escaped and it felt like we barely made it.

What does this mean?

  1. I think the dream may be telling you that you are getting ready to let go of your son … not in a negative sense but in a good sense of allowing him to leave the nest … to fly. The only thing that sort of stymies me is that you are doing so much of the rescuing when you take the gun and fight the man. Is it the man who pulls the knife? Your son falling may indicate his hesitance about going out on his own. But I think he’s willing to do it.

Your son doesn’t actually have to leave home. In fact, you seem to be buds, so there may be no desire on his part to do that at all. But he will have to take over his own life. The freeway with the cars and exit and all probably indicate he is at the threshold of jumping into one and taking off, not necessarily with you. It’s an escape route. But, again, it doesn’t mean he’s escaping from you. It just means he’s embarking on his own life. He may never leave town but he can go far in terms of what he does with his life.

There is also the possibility that there is something you are worried about in regard to your son, or there is some danger lurking for him. But I have begun to think of scary, violent dreams as exactly the opposite. For instance, if you die in a dream it is said it just means you have ended one phase of your life and are beginning another. The good thing to know is that you have prepared your son well for his life’s journey … the calling out to the lord, the bravery. (Taking a gun? Pretty gutsy. You sound like you didn’t even think twice about that.) I’m not sure he feels he can live up to your standards but you have given him a good example. I hope wherever life takes him it won’t be too far physically but he will go far in the sense of his accomplishments and it would probably be largely due to your influence. Don’t know if I’m on target here but hope this helps. :)
