Where to get the best information on being a bee keeper?

I want to be a bee keeper but how to start out – where do you purchase your bees? How about the hives – I have a perfect location, I live outside of a small city and I would like to get started as a bee keeper. There are no local clubs in the area. I would appreciate any help. I live on the western slope of Colorado.

where can I spend my sabbatical year in USA?

I’m a 62 years old Mexican teacher that work in an Agricultural School in Tlaxcala (The smallest state of my country), México. I’m veterinarian and teach basically subjects like Biology, Zoology, Microbiology, and some about Animal Science. At the present semester (aug.-dec). I’m Teaching Microbiology and Animal Production. I work like bee keeper at school since 2006, so I teach Apiculture (beekeeping) I’ve worked also with birds, rabbits, pigs and dairy and beef cattle. Sometimes I”ve taught English language at school.
I’m Vet since 1974 and Teacher since 1982. I never have had a sabbatical year and soon I’ll get my jubilation; for this reason I’d like to take advantage of this opportunity that is a right like teacher.

I’d like a place like New Mexico State or other southern state; I can work at Junior High School, High School, College or Universities. My wish is to practice my English, change my life style for one year.

I earn enough money to stay at USA for my sabbatical year. I’m married and have 2 kids.

Luis Carlos from Tlaxcala, México.

I want to be a bee keeper of just a small hive, as I am a beginner….can someone lead me in the right path?

How do I even get started?

I understand I need a box with some grids/cells. Where can i get a small one? Or can i make my own?

Also, do bees operate all year in a Zone 7? In winter and all?

Plus, if i have a box, how do i attract the bees? I barely ever see any….

Do they just come naturally? Or do I lay bait?

Thanks!
