I have 2 huge cottage gardens in my front yard that I spend hours in every day after work…sometimes until 10:30 at night. Yes, most of my garden consists of high maintenance plants (about 35 roses, 25 delphiniums, a few hollyhocks, tons of snapdragons (the really tall ones) and an assortment of many other things. The majority of my work is usually staking, pruning, and watering which is normal but the stupid crabgrass never ends. I pull it almost everyday and a lot of it and just when I think I am done….”what the hell”? I have often wondered jokingly (kind of) if my neighbor that has a little compitition garden wise, (mine looks way better) has thrown crabgrass seed in my garden when I am not home. The thing is all of my neighbors have just about everything in there yards weed wise except for crabgrass. We are the only ones that “weed & feed”. I’ve heard of Preen but I am cautious because of use of Osmocote and Disease & Insect Spray if it will counter react.
OK ran out of space above. I dont even know if it is obtainable, crabgrass seed, but it’ just weird. We live on a dead end street and 3 of us have our cottage gardens butted up to the road and they always stand out. The other neighbor, I do his yard as well (a bachelor that lost his gardening gal) but I dont spend the same amount of time with his as mine. I have always complimented her (crabgrass lady) on her yard and she has never returned the compliment. I get constant praises on mine and I take them in but always include her, “She does a very nice job, too”. And I get “Uuuhh No…not even compared”. So its not like I sit there and flaunt mine. When I come across extra stuff all the time and offer them to her, she never takes them. I have never come across as the competitor other than the fact that I work my butt off keeping mine the way it looks. I find it nice that we have 3 of us on our little dead end kinda doing the same thing but I feel like she has something out 4 me
