Can you have 1000′s of bee’s come in your yard and there not be a cone?

We are always out in the backyard at sunset(when bee’s swarm) so I know these bee’s weren’t there before, but last night at sunset 1000′s and 1000′s of bee’s swarmed our back yard and then disappeared. (one got in the house and stung my daughter) We sprayed the backyard with bug killer that you hook up to a water hose. Could they have just been migrating and do we have a cone somewhere?

Typically when we harvest honey here at Sunset Magazine HQ, we strip the wax comb and honey from the frames and strain the honey through cheesecloth into a bowl.
