Do Japaneese Hornets live in the Northeast (USA)??

I saw this crazy GIANT hornet in my backyard killing another insect. The other insect was a large white/grey bug that sounded almost like a cricket or a tree frog. I was afriad to nail them with bee-spray because I was afraid it would just anger the hornet. Anyone know if its a Japaneese hornet? And if so are they a danger to children?? It was striped like a honey bee with large brownish wings and it was about 5 times the size of a black wasp.

Can Sugar Maples Self Pollinate?

Yeah, I was just wondering. Can Sugar Maples Self Pollinate? Meaning can they have both male and female flowers on the same tree? I was reading from this side “http://bioweb.uwlax.edu/bio203/2010/schoenfu_aman/reproduction.htm” that they do and was wondering if that is accurate.

So, if the tree self pollinates and creates those little samara’s will the seedlings be a clone of the parent tree? Please let me know. Thanks.

I have a bee problem.?

We have a huge tree in our front yard, Oak I believe. About 2 weeks ago, we started noticing a large amount of bees swarming all around the top of the tree. There are 5 different kinds that we have see so far. Our driveway is under the tree branches, and our windshields stay covered in this waxy substance. We have had a beekeeper out, and he said there was nothing that could be done because there was no hive. They are everywhere though, on the ground even, walking around. I’m just scared because we have a 2 year old daughter that can’t even go outside and play because of the bees. We don’t want to cut the tree down because it is huge, and it provides a lot of shade. Is there anything that can be done to get rid of all these bees? Thanks for any help.

Bees, do you really care about them?

I have been hearing a lot about the problems with the bees and the relation to the cost of the rising prices of food. According to the news, Bees are normally rented out to farmers to pollenate their farms to produce fruit but due to chemicals that people are putting on their lawns seem to be killing all of the bees and therefore is a problem for the farmers and will make the cost of food rise? I realise that with the droughts, then floods it has been hard on farmers already but now the bees? My question to all of you is, if you could make a difference but not putting such harsh chemicals on your lawns to save the bee population would you do it? What happens if your lawn just dies from too many bugs? Is there anything else we can use on our lawns that would not be as harmful? I am not trying to be a tree hugger, but when is enough, enough for you? Does it bother you or not? I am not sure why this is bothing me so much? But it is! Is my liberal tree hugging side coming out?
