I can prove it. Let me explain.
I quote from Isaiah 40:22 (a passage from a book of the Bible…well I must not assume everyone has heard of the Bible!).
Isaiah 40:22 (New International Version)
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
The key phrase here is ‘circle of the earth’ and the key words following are ‘heavens’ and ‘tent’.
There can be no doubt from this that the writer – who must have been divinely inspired (what else?!) understood the worl to be FLAT. Why? Because he thought the world was DOME-shaped! ‘Circle’ is not the same as round. A dome is circular but it is flat.
The clincher: YOU DON’T PITCH A TENT (‘the heavens like a canopy’) AROUND A CIRCLE. YOU PITCH A TENT ON A FLAT SURFACE!
In London, out Millennium Dome is the shape of the biblical world. In America, your Louisiana Superdome is the same shape.
Come on you religios. Squirm out of that if you can.
Won’t do, the fundies will just claim it’s a metaphor or something whilst STILL taking literally the story in the genesis.

And you want to believe the bible why? Obviously the earth is not flat.

There is no word for “spherical” in Hebrew – and modern scholars clearly see “the circle of the earth” as an attempt to describe a round earth in a time when most scholars were saying that the earth WAS flat. The Bible knew the world was round before men could even prove it. No ‘squirming’ necessary, we merely need to point out (for the billionth time) that it’s easy for nonbelievers to twist words in the Bible completely out of context. Good job proving me right.
And for all the angry nonbelievers who’ll inevitably give me thumbs down, I dare you to read this:

The Bible say the earth has four corners.

When you look at photographs from space, does the world not look like a circle? Yes or no? We know it’s round because we can circle it, but it appears round. As for the tent/canopy part when you’re looking at the “circle” of the earth, you see the space behind it as well. That “space” appears to connect to the earth at the edges of the circle, and while it would be a crazy weird tent, it still gets the point across.
From a Biblical/God standpoint, why would it be hard to believe that someone could have been given a vision of what space looks like before we had the technology?

You must keep in mind that these prophets weren’t exactly the most beloved people of their time. Jeremiah, for instance, was thrown into a well and scourged among other things because the people didn’t like what he was saying.
Now, people back then believed the world was flat. Everyone believed that. Remember what happened to Galileo? Well, the Jews probably would have treated Isaiah the same way if he said “the world is not flat, but spherical” According to their understanding of the world, he would have lost all credibility as a prophet and no one would have listened to him.
He was putting it in terms the people of that time would understand.
Of course, we know better. But they didn’t have the same technology or knowledge we have now. If Isaiah were alive today, he probably would have worded that differently.
Telling them the world is spherical would be like trying to teach an infant calculus. Completely fruitless. Plus, the point of the story isn’t that the world is flat, but it is explaining what God’s throne is like.
I was reading a Brazilian folk tale about how night came about. It was about some time when it was morning all day and the indians wanted it to be night sometimes so they could sleep, but they never knew what to do about it. Well, one day a witch found the night at the bottom of a river and trapped it in a coconut. Then she changed herself into a snake to guard it.
Well, this witch had a daughter, and this daughter got married to an indian. Since she was a witch, she didn’t need to sleep. But her husband did. She got worried about her husband because as time went on he got more tired and tired. So she sent some servants to her mother to get the night coconut, knowing that her mother wouldn’t deny her daughter. So the servants went to get it, and the witch told them that only her daughter should open it. Of course, the servants didn’t listen and on their way home one of them opened the coconut, releasing the night and all the creatures that belong to it. The witches daughter, seeing the darkness approaching, knew that the night had been released, so she cut off a piece of her hair and threw it into the sky, creating the moon. The servants were banished and went into the forest where they became the monkeys that now inhabit the earth.
Now, what is the point of the story? It is to explain how the night and moon came into being. Night being trapped in a coconut is irrelevant.

So he said circle instead of sphere. I think you’re jumping to conclusions that he meant flat and not round.

I am copying/pasting YOUR words: “Its official: The Bible DOES say the world is flat.” Book/chapter/verse that says, “The world is flat.” Can’t do it? That’s because it does NOT say, “The world is flat.” Ever been to Texas? The world sure looks flat from there.
You are really stretching it if you believe that passage refers to the world as being flat. Did you notice the word LIKE? It means SIMILAR. It does not mean IT IS. I am LIKE my father; I ride a motorcycle, I smoke a pipe, I play a guitar, I am retired military. But I am NOT my father.
You people are a hoot! Trying to make God’s Word say what it doesn’t. Sorry hoss, you lose.
You are LIKE a clown. You’re FUNNY, but you’re not really a clown.
Got it?
Thanks for the laugh at your expense.
